It’s time for another instalment of our Meet the Team series, and this week, we’re sitting down to learn more about Kirsty Kirkpatrick, SEO Content Executive, who joined Green Ginger Digital earlier this year. Kirsty brings a wealth of experience and passion for design and content creation, and along with Nathan, is instrumental to the content offering within our SEO service.
A graduate of the University of Hull (like so many of our fab GGD-ers are!), as well as a Master’s degree from York St. John’s, Kirsty brings design thinking to our agency and has been a great addition to the team.
So let’s find out more about her, shall we?
Tell us a bit about your role here at Green Ginger Digital
As an SEO Content Executive, I spend a lot of my time writing – from blogs and on-site copy to FAQs, meta descriptions, and everything in between. When I’m not creating content, I’m conducting keyword research, competitor analysis, and checking client performance to see how we can help them reach even greater results. No two days are ever the same, and that’s what I love about it!
What does a typical day look like for you?
There’s no such this as a “typical” day in SEO. The moment you think anything is typical, an algorithm update creeps in from stage left, and you’re left scrambling to adjust, so it’s best to always expect change and plan accordingly!
One day I might be writing a series of blog posts for a client, and the next I’m analysing keywords or brainstorming new ideas with the team. It’s a nice mix of creativity and strategy that keeps things interesting.
What was your career journey like before joining the team?
After finishing my degree in Media, Design & Production, I worked as a Learner Support Advisor within the Media and Computing departments at a college, which I absolutely loved. I supported learners with different needs, disabilities, and mental health challenges, and it taught me so much about communication and creativity.
I then moved into marketing in education, where I got to do a bit of everything – from social media management and campaign planning to content writing, photography, filming, event management and my biggest passion: Graphic Design, which I completed a Master’s in while working full-time.
What’s your favourite part of the job? And what’s the most challenging?
My favourite part is definitely the creative side. I adore writing, designing, and bringing ideas to life. I love that spark when you come up with something new and find the perfect way to execute it. I also really appreciate how collaborative our team is; everyone’s so supportive, and it makes a huge difference.
The most challenging part can be managing multiple projects at once. It’s a super fast-paced industry, so staying organised and sticking to a schedule is essential!
What would you say is your area of expertise? What do people always come to you for help with?
Design!
I’m very vocal about my love for it, and I’m always happy to help others with anything visual, whether that’s layout advice, colour choices, or general feedback. I also often help with proofreading and fine-tuning content before it goes live.
Do you have any advice for someone wanting to get into your line of work?
You need to genuinely love what you do. Passion for your work shows through everything you create, so keep learning and don’t be afraid to experiment and ask questions.
What’s a tool, app or trick you can’t live without in your work?
Ahrefs and Google Search Console are essential for daily SEO to dig into keyword research, competitor insights and performance.
I also love using Trello for organisation and planning, having everything lined up with visual boards and cards is a lifesaver when you’re juggling lots of content projects! And when I get involved in more visual work, Adobe Creative Cloud is my go-to for design and creative projects.
How do you stay sharp and keep learning in your role?
I love exploring what others in the industry are doing and reading blogs to stay abreast of trends and insights across the sectors we work in with our clients. I’m also a big fan of researching and testing new content ideas, using data to paint a more detailed picture wherever possible.
Plus, our team shares insights and updates regularly through Lunch and Learn sessions, which help us all keep improving together and give us a holistic, cross-channel view.
What advice do you wish you could give to your younger self when starting in your career?
It’s never too late to start something new. Have confidence in your abilities and don’t be scared to ask for help!
And finally… what do you love most about being part of GGD?
The people! The team is so supportive, creative, and encouraging.
It’s a great feeling to work somewhere where everyone genuinely cares about the work we do and about each other.
